During her studies, Frances found that “Family and friends require greater recognition as key members of the rheumatology multidisciplinary team, and defined roles within the team at each stage of early rheumatoid arthritis” as well as “Patient expertise in symptom experiences needs to be given greater recognition when considering referral in Primary Care. Shared decision making is not isolated to health professional and patient. It is an approach that occurs between participants, family and friends and health professionals”.

Overcoming familial bereavement and caring responsibilities, as well as the demands and challenges of busy clinical nurse specialist practice, Frances has completed both an MSc and PhD at the ²ÝÁñÉçÇøµØÖ· - “Both the surroundings and academic facilities are excellent. My supervisors have always listened to any suggestions I have offered to improve the student academic study experience”. Since graduating, she has developed publications, research dissemination and had incorporated ideas from her PhD into clinical practice.
